One of our favorite events, the Easter Parade was last Sunday, and Matthew has been hard at work on editing the video since then. I’m so excited to share this with you because I think its our best one yet! You see us getting ready, then what its like to be at the parade, and some of our lovely vintage friends and their gorgeous vintage events, as well as some of the more interesting Easter Bonnets that people have created. We end our day at the Plaza Hotel dancing to Gregory Moore and his band, followed by dinner at the Polo Bar.

I’ll be doing another post about the Easter Parade soon with some of the beautiful pictures taken that day, but for now please enjoy this video of our day! We will be making more videos soon and are open to suggestions of topics you would like to see!

I’m excited to announce that Matthew and I have produced a new makeup tutorial video; this one about strip lashes!

How to apply strip lashes so they look good and feel comfortable is one of my most-asked questions as a makeup artist, so it seemed a natural fit for our next tutorial. You’ll find out how to measure to trim strip lashes so they look and feel great, and also the very best way to apply lash glue so you have the perfect amount! Please watch and comment below to let me know what you think and let us know what other topics you’d like to see covered! Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube Channel as well so you can see all the fun videos that we’ll be posting!

Enjoy this tutorial and have fun wearing those lashes!

Hello My Vintage Loves! Very exciting news! Matthew and I have finally started making makeup tutorial videos! Our very first one is about one of the most important parts of a vintage look- red lipstick! Please watch and leave a comment with your thoughts. (And please go easy on us; we’re still learning!!)

There will be more videos coming soon; but please let me know your thoughts for other topics you’d like to see us cover! You can see and subscribe to our entire YouTube channel here.

Thank you for your help and your support!

On a holiday weekend this January a bunch of us gathered at the Blue Mountain Reservation for our yearly adventure we like to call the Tweed Lodge (aka Fancy Camp). This is one of the most anticipated and best-loved events among our vintage crew. This time it was a much smaller group who gathered, almost half as many as last time, which led to a more intimate, more relaxed event which I personally very much enjoyed.

We all met at the Lodge on Friday evening and settled in to a lovely, casual dinner, gathering around the fireplace, to chat, imbibe, and play a few board games.  We all stumbled out of bed on Saturday morning, had a lovely (and fattening- maple candied bacon! Pancakes!) breakfast and some more time around the fireplace, then headed out for a lovely hike on an unseasonably warm afternoon. Some of our group made it to the top of Mt. Spitzenberg, while some of our group opted to go to the shooting range. As you can see from the pictures it was magical the way the light was filtering down amongst the trees and it was just wonderful walking through the forest with friends.

I am so thrilled to share this video that we collaborated on with two Chinese videographers earlier this month. It chronicles our love story, the MTA Vintage Train and our love of vintage. We are so grateful to Lu Lu and Monica from Miao Miao Productions for doing such a great job creating the video, and for the all the wonderful photographers who allowed us to use their images in the video as well.  Our story and love of vintage wouldn’t be nearly as special if it weren’t captured by such talented people.

Please enjoy the video on Vimeo and let us know your thoughts! We’re hoping to do more (self produced) videos in the near future. If there’s any specific topics you’d like to see us cover, please comment below!

On November 8th, we gathered once again at Grand Army Plaza for the annual Brooklyn Tweed Ride. We were lucky enough to have perfect weather: crisp, and just warm enough to not be freezing, but not too hot to make riding in our tweeds uncomfortable. I wore an absolutely amazing purple suit with black velvet trim that I had recently purchased for this very event. I wasn’t wearing tweed, its true, but hey, purple is a fall color and velvet is nice and warm! Even with a merry-widow on underneath it was surprisingly comfortable to ride in!

Hello MVLers! I’m excited to announce that a new feature- a calendar featuring upcoming vintage events, is now live on the site! My goal is to put up all the major vintage events in NYC and some events in the tri-state area, including parties, picnics, lectures, vintage clothing shows, and anything else that might interest lovers of vintage!  This is by no means all encompassing but I will do my best to list all events that might be relevant. If you know of, or are organizing, an event that you would like included on the calendar, please email me at michelle@myvintagelove.com.

Check out the calendar by clicking “Calendar” in the menu bar above or click here.

40's Wedding 4

Thanks to Facebook, I recently came across one of the most wonderful videos I’ve ever seen. A grandson took the raw footage from his grandparent’s wedding in 1944, edited it and uploaded it, so we can all enjoy the beauty of that day.

Filmed in and around Portland, Oregon (which makes me love it even more, as a native Oregonian) it shows the simple but lovely wedding of Doyle and Mary Jane, who according to the original post are still married 64 years later! Doyle is so handsome in his sailors uniform and Mary Jane is stunning in her beautiful blue dress, lovely hat and matching bright pink(!!) gloves and purse. There’s a sweet simplicity to everything- the small amount of people involved, the “Just Married” sign on the back of the car, and the “MJB” rice thrown at the newlyweds as they leave the reverend’s house where they were married. I literally teared up when I watched this for the first time, it was all just so beautiful and innocent.  As a friend said when I posted the link to the video on Facebook- “A handful of people and a handful of rice- perfect!”

You can see this inspiring and beautiful video here.  Be sure to notice the beautiful colors of the Kodachrome- you can really appreciate the bright colors of some of the clothing! So beautiful!!

It’s been a long, long time since my last post! Many posts have been started, but none actually posted, because I was busy planning our wedding! Let me tell you, planning a wedding in nine short months is a lot of work but the day of was totally, completely worth all of the work (and the few moments of aggravation, lol). We were lucky to have our friends and family with us on our big day, and I will never forget the feeling of love and support that surrounded us that day.  Our very talented photographer, Inbal Sivan, captured so many beautiful, fleeting moments. (And we were very fortunate that our good friend Rose Callahan was kind enough to capture some lovely moments for us as well.)

Once again its been too long since my last update but let’s get back to it! So much fun to stuff has happened that I need to post about!

I was delighted to be contacted by Sven Raphael Schneider, who I’ve had the pleasure of meeting once before and who is one of the editors at the popular online menswear magazine Gentlemen’s Gazette. He asked if I would like to be interviewed by one of their contributors for an upcoming story about the significant others of men who dress well. While he did use the word “dandy” and Matthew does not consider himself a dandy (or even well-dress for that matter!) I thought it would be fun to be interviewed and contribute a small part to an article about something I love- men dressing well.

I was interviewed by J.A. Shapiro who conducted a fairly thorough interview, which was new for me since I am not used to being the one interviewed! (Usually I watch my clients get interviewed when I’m at work!)  The final article can be seen here . With the exception of calling me a “world renowned makeup artist” (not quite!) and stating that I prefer the 50’s in terms of style (more like 30’s-40’s) the article is accurate and a fun read.  Please let me know your thoughts on my section and the others as well! (We are good friends with Andrew Yamato and Jenny Gage who were also interviewed).

The picture above is from our shoot with Tatiana Breslow and Ryan Brenizer who are absolutely amazing wedding photographers and asked if they could shoot us just for the fun of it earlier this year. Much more of those amazing pics coming soon!
