Fashion Speaks Friday: We Are Dandy

March 10, 2017 @ 7:00 am - 8:30 pm

Dandyism transcends fashion —it is a committed way of life.

Join photographer Rose Callahan and writer Nathaniel Adams for an evening dedicated to an international survey of the global dandy community as presented in their new book: We are Dandy: The Elegant Gentleman Around the World (Gestalten).

Around the world, dandies embrace style while respecting their local cultural traditions. From America to Africa to Asia, dandyism is a way of life. It is fashion in the best sense, self-esteem through style. And, in every country, it takes a unique form as dandies draw on the local context and fashion culture to shape their looks. We are Dandy throws open the doors of the wardrobe and explores the dandy as a global phenomenon.

Rose Callahan and Nathaniel Adams are the co-authors of I am Dandy (Gestalten). Rose Callahan is a Brooklyn based photographer and filmmaker documenting the worlds of style and portraiture. In addition to working with commercial clients, she is the exclusive photographer for the Metropolitan Opera’s style blog Last Night at the Met. Nathaniel Adams has contributed sections to the book From Tip to Toe, and has written for the New York Times, Rolling Stone, Men’s Journal, Harper’s Bazaar, the Rake, Pipes & Tobacco Magazine, and The Chap. He is the co-founder of the Secret Empire custom menswear company.
